Open Question: Should drug companies be forced to stop advertising products with an unknown safety record?

The FDA has just announced that Zicam nasal spray can permanently destroy your sense of smell and is urging people not to use the product. Vioxx was recalled a few years ago due to increased risk of heart attack and stroke, and there have been plenty more cases of recalled drugs both prescription and OTC. Do you think drug companies should be allowed to advertise drugs whose long term effects are unknown?
